Puglia by UTMB 2025: il trail che porta il mondo tra le Gravine del Sud

From 7 to 9 November 2025, Puglia will become the new capital of world trail running with the first edition of Puglia by UTMB .
A highly anticipated event that brings the prestigious UTMB World Series circuit to the heart of Southern Italy, among ancient canyons, cave villages, and the Ionian Sea.

For nature running enthusiasts, it's much more than a race: it's an experience that combines sport, culture, and breathtaking landscapes.

A one-of-a-kind event

For the first time, the UTMB circuit arrives in Puglia, a land of sun, olive trees, and white stone.
Its spectacular ravines , natural canyons carved into the limestone rock, offer a technical but incredibly evocative terrain: here silence, the wind and history become running companions.

The event promises to be a true trail running celebration, with thousands of participants from all over the world and an atmosphere that promises to leave its mark.
It will be an international showcase not only for the sport, but also for Puglia, which will be able to show the world its most authentic soul.

The races: five courses for each level

The Puglia by UTMB offers five different distances, designed to offer an experience suitable for every type of runner, from beginners to experienced ultrarunners.

The shortest route is the Costa Verde Trail (CVT10) , a 10-kilometer race with 50 meters of elevation gain. It starts in Castellaneta Marina , in a stunning natural setting, perfect for those who want to experience the UTMB atmosphere for the first time without tackling a challenging distance.

Next up is the Ginosa Rivolta Trail (GRT35) , 35 kilometers with approximately 350 meters of elevation gain, a fast and scenic route that passes through hills, pine forests, and picturesque views of the Gravine. Ideal for those with trail running experience who want to test themselves on flowing yet technical terrain.

The third route is the Castellaneta Underground Trail (CUT50) , 50 kilometers long and with 1,000 meters of elevation gain. It still starts in Castellaneta Marina, but the route becomes more varied and challenging, alternating coastal stretches with passages through Mediterranean scrub and rocky terrain.

For more experienced runners, there's the Maioliche di Laterza Trail (MLT85) , an 85-kilometer route with 2,000 meters of elevation gain. It's a wild and technical race, passing through rugged and pristine landscapes, perfect for those seeking a complete challenge.

Finally, the main distance: The Sassi di Matera (SDM140) , 140 kilometers with 3,800 meters of elevation gain. The race starts in the extraordinary city of Sassi and passes through canyons, cave villages, and stretches of coastline all the way to the Ionian Sea. It's a true journey through the history and nature of Southern Italy.

Running between history and nature

The charm of Puglia by UTMB comes from its unique territory.
The Gravine —deep karst gorges—wind between Matera, Laterza, Ginosa, and Castellaneta. Running here means traversing prehistoric landscapes, ancient caves, and villages carved into the rock.

Between one step and the next, runners find themselves surrounded by ancient olive trees, dry stone walls, and the scent of Mediterranean scrub.
And when the fatigue begins to take its toll, the sight of the Ionian Sea gives you the energy to reach the finish line.
